Passion

Most opening acts don’t do it for the money. They’re looking for their break, knowing it may never come even if they have the talent. What keeps you going, driving each of those long miles yourself, staying in cheap motels or whatever you got to put up with, is the chance to sing your songs, tell your jokes or show your films.

Purity

Opening acts may not have the slick production values of the headliners, but that doesn’t mean they don’t produce quality. They just haven’t been prepackaged, branded and overproduced. They haven’t done what all artists swear (usually like sailors) that they won’t do: sell out. Staying pure isn’t so much about how much money you have; it’s an attitude, a sense of integrity, of staying true to yourself. Isn’t that “true” independent film?

Play

Doing this isn’t really work. The hours may be long and the pay even less, but we’re getting to play in the sandbox. You can just feel it when an opening act is enjoying themselves. They are truly playing, taking chances and having a blast—and you are too! We hope to infuse our films with that sense of play… and to not take ourselves too seriously.

Purpose

We believe this life is just the opening act, a warm-up for better things to come. Don’t lose heart. You may not understand where you’re stuck, or the bit role you got, but like any good film, the opening act is followed by a turning point with an unimagined twist. We seek to keep that in mind in our business, films and all we do.
